PROFILE:
Any handrail shapes you want. I have tooling for dozens of stock and
custom profiles or I can work from your plans and specifications. I also
specialize in period work and can replicate original (historic) parts for
replacement.

DESIGN:
I am not an architect but I know a good floor plan when I see it.
Sometimes I’ll spot a problem and I’ll  try to offer suggestions or I may
have an idea to improve something.  I also maintain a
comprehensive architectural reference library on period staircases
and woodwork. I really appreciate being consulted and asked to be
part of the design process.

VOLUTES:
I make true spiral volutes that are custom made for each stair. The
volute arm (that connects to the rail) is always curved and pitched
to conform to the handrail and stair. The volute then becomes a
graceful part of the railing instead of a bolted on flat fitting. I can also
create geometrically correct volutes in any diameter or descending
revolutions. An 18 or 22 inch diameter volute (for example) with a 12
inch drop, is always a labor of love and a real work of art (if I may say
so).

GOOSENECKS/EASEMENTS:
I usually make these in one piece (never small radius segments
attached to short straight  pieces…yikes!) These fittings can be curved
(in two directions) as required to fit the floor plan radius.

CURVED RAIL:
All radius and helical handrail is cut from solid stock and machine
profiled. The milling on all handrail parts is uniform and precise.
Graceful changes in pitch or direction are the result of the tangent
layout methods.

ONE PART ONLY:
No problem, ask me for a single volute (or just the helical arm piece).
Maybe you need an easing transition from the winding treads to the
straight flight or perhaps just a 90 degree climbing turn. You can
confidently supplement your standard line of parts with any needed
custom component.

MATERIAL:
Any available domestic or exotic stock, including reclaimed lumber. I
buy only the best material and hand -select each board. The best
face is then presented for the top of the rail. I usually use the thickest
practical stock to eliminate or minimize glue lines. Did you know?
Mass-produced factory fittings are almost always made from
“downfall” (glued-up small pieces of scrap from other operations). I
won’t sell scrap.

GUARANTEE:
I positively guarantee that my handrail parts will fit according to your
plans and specifications. Do I ever make mistakes? Honestly, not
often, but when I do, I remake the part (NOW/ASAP). I don’t argue
with field installers (2000 miles away) I just find the mistake and fix it. If
it’s your mistake, I promise to work with you (reasonably) to make it
right.
I WANT YOU TO BE SATISFIED.
